I had the opportunity to go to the State Art Gallery recently. I visited the “Van Gogh, Dali and Beyond: The world reimagined” Exhibition.
I was gobsmacked.
I haven’t been to an art gallery since high school and I forgot what it was like to walk around in the gallery. I felt a little vulnerable stepping into the gallery- with small groups going around with a tour guide; security officers watching patrons like hawks and valuable and irreplaceable art around me. However, I convinced myself to be immersed in the beauty all around- it didn’t take much to do so.
The imagination, creativity and mastery of skills were absolutely amazing. Some of the works that intrigued me were ones that looked like real images (i.e. Photographs). How? How does one create such a masterpiece with a few cleverly placed stroke of the brush?
Anyway, this has reignite my interest in art- in creating bigger pieces, not like doodling on my notes or sketching mindlessly. I want to create something that I can be proud of. As I drove home, I had plenty of images that flashed trough my mind and I must admit, I became quite excited by the promising inception of my project.
I think I will pick up some supplies this weekend and see what happens when the paint touches the canvas.
